DETAILS

The Shalom Center presents a set of three Webinars on three sacred documents that are evidence of the Spirit Rising, in conversations between Rabbi Arthur Waskow and three different profoundly spiritual teachers. June 14, 21, and 28 (all Wednesdays) 7:30 – 9:00PM ET // 4:30 – 6PM PT June 14: Rabbi Jill Hammer, co-founder of the Kohenet/Hebrew Priestess movement, joins Rabbi Waskow in exploring ”The Thunder: Perfect Mind”, a text found in the “Gnostic” library at Nag Hammadi, Egypt. It begins with the same “Anokhi”—the Hebrew word for the Supernal “I” that comes when the Universe says “I”— as begins the Ten Utterances at Sinai. Here there are about 40 verses that begin “Anokhi", all in a Woman’s voice, speaking of paradox in the world. June 21: Artist Arlene Goldbard joins Rabbi Waskow to discuss her book of words and paintings, “In the Camp of Angels of Freedom: What Does It Mean to Be Educated?” Her “Angels of Freedom” paintings depict people who have taught her how Love and Justice can kiss each other (Psalm 85). She has chosen two “Angels”, Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel and anarchist-pacifist essayist/poet/novelist Paul Goodman, to explore in this conversation. June 28: Poet Alicia Ostriker and Rabbi Waskow explore Muriel Rukeyser’s great poem Akiba, which uses the life of the great Rabbi Akiba to explore the great spiritual journeys of our lives into inward and outward freedom. Akiba led three other rabbis in a mystical and risky adventure into “Pardes”—The Orchard—and came out to convince the Sanhedrin that the Song of Songs was the Holy of Holies in all of Jewish wisdom. Registrants will receive copies of the texts to be explored, and will be able to join in the conversation. All sessions will be recorded so we encourage you to register even if you cannot join in live. If you have friends who would enjoy this exploration, please share this invitation with them! *One registration covers ALL THREE webinars*.
